Adding an additional northbound lane to SH-1 busiest motorway next to the southern rail corridor was a major challenge, pushing the bridge central pier over two meters to make space for the new lane.

“On one side the persistent buzz of vehicle traffic and on the other the constant roar of trains; NOT the place to be if you have a bit of a headache.”

The new pier was constructed behind the existing structure with the entire main highway bridge deck lifted by a powerful hydraulic jacks then carefully re-lowered onto the new piers.
